The balcony gully is the Benfica fixture people forget exists. Marquises are glazed in, the washing machine moves out there, a plant pot sheds soil, dust and lint settle, and the little grating in the corner silts up unnoticed until the first heavy rain puts water across the floor and under the door. When a shared column closes, waste rises to the lowest opening it can find, so it is the ground-floor bathroom that floods, not the flat that flushed the wipes. Where the obstruction sits also decides who deals with it: your own trap and branch are yours, the shared stack is a condomínio matter, and beyond the building line it is the municipal network's. We find the location, write it down and leave the decision to the people whose decision it is. Until we get there, stop using the fixture and stop flushing to check whether it has cleared. Do not plunge a WC hard if a neighbour below has already reported water, because you are pushing into their flat. And leave the caustic drain openers alone: they will not dissolve a wipe plug and they turn the standing water into something we then have to work in. We sheet the room, open the trap, and rod or use a drum machine sized to the pipe, with a camera for the cases where the symptoms do not add up.
