Lavradio grew up around industry and it still looks it, a compact place of terraced streets and apartment blocks between Barreiro and the river, now slowly being renovated. What has not changed is the housing stock: small flats, minimal drying space and estuary damp that settles in from November and stays. Arranja Já runs a laundry and linen service built for that. We collect bed linen, towels, duvets, bedspreads and curtains from your door, wash them at the temperature each fabric needs, dry them fully and iron them, then deliver them folded and ready to use. Each household is washed as its own load, and regular clients settle onto a fixed weekly or monthly day.

About our service in Lavradio

The bulk of the work here is the heavy end of household textiles. Lavradio flats commonly have a machine in the kitchen with a small drum, which handles clothes and just about copes with a single sheet, but cannot take a double duvet, a chenille bedspread or four metres of curtain. Those items get postponed until someone finally decides to deal with them, which is when we get the call, generally in autumn or during a spring clear-out. The regular side is quieter: bed linen and towels collected on a fixed day and returned ironed and folded. It matters most in the older buildings around Lavradio centro and towards Quinta da Lomba where drying means a rack in a hallway. In winter a rack does not dry bedding at all, it just relocates the damp into the walls and leaves a musty smell that survives the next wash. Our drying is done under controlled conditions, so what comes back is dry to the core in February as much as in August. A good number of our clients here are people who have lived in the same street for decades and no longer want to wrestle a soaked duvet out of a machine. Those arrangements are often organised and paid for by family living elsewhere, with us confirming each collection and delivery so everyone knows the linen arrived. We also serve the local commercial side: cafés and snack bars with cloths and tablecloths in daily use, and a few guesthouses that keep bed linen in rotation with spare sets so they are never short. Commercial and household accounts are kept strictly apart. If English or French is easier than Portuguese, we can work in either. Collection days are fixed in advance, and single items are quoted on their own, so nothing obliges you to take a contract to start.

It should, if it is washed as what it is rather than as ordinary bedding. Chenille sheds and crochet stretches when it is wet and heavy, so both need the right load size, a gentle mechanical action and controlled drying rather than a hot tumble. Tell us if a piece is old or hand-made and we will treat it accordingly, and say so plainly if we think washing carries a real risk.

Do you cover Quinta da Lomba and Palhais as well as Lavradio itself?

Yes, they are on the same round, along with Coina and the Barreiro side. It is a compact area, which is why we can keep fixed collection days rather than turning up whenever it suits the van. If you are on one of the smaller streets, a pinned location for the first visit makes everything easier afterwards.

How do you avoid mixing my washing with someone else's?

Each account is bagged and labelled at collection, the contents are listed, and the load is washed on its own. Nothing is pooled between households, and nothing household is ever washed with a café's cloths or tablecloths. The list is checked again before delivery, so the count you handed over is the count that comes back.
