Access is the first thing we talk about here, more than anywhere else we work. Sesimbra is built on a slope, the older streets are narrow, and a lot of properties have a garage that was designed around a smaller car than the one now in it. We need enough room to open the doors fully and walk right round the vehicle, we need somewhere reasonably level, and in an underground or semi-basement garage we need decent light, headroom and ventilation. If the car cannot be worked on where it sits, the usual answer is to move it a short distance to a better spot for an hour rather than cancel. Tell us what you have when you book and we will work it out beforehand instead of arriving and improvising. All the equipment comes with us. Salt and sand need separate handling. Sand that has been ground into a mat is abrasive and sits deep, so it comes out by extraction rather than by suction alone, and the seat rails get particular attention because that is where it collects out of sight. A boot that has carried wet suits and towels holds salt in the carpet even once it looks dry, and salt keeps drawing damp back in, so the lining is cleaned and then given time to air properly before anything goes back in it. On the outside we work waterless or with very little water and nothing runs off down the street. That approach has a real limit, though. After a run down a sandy track to a beach, a car can be carrying a gritty film that must not be wiped: drag that across the paint and you polish fine scratches into it. We look first and say if the car needs a proper wash with water before it is suitable. We also never pressure-wash an engine bay, where the connectors and electronics live, and we do not touch bodywork or paint correction.
