We start where the trouble is. The boot liner comes out, the spare wheel well is opened and vacuumed, and the carpet is extracted rather than simply suctioned, because anything that soaked through has gone into the fibres and not just onto them. Extraction with a proper cleaner lifts far more of it than a wet cloth can, and it is the only honest way to deal with a lining that has had brine or bait liquid in it. That drying stage is not optional and it is not quick in a damp coastal winter, so we plan the visit knowing the car should not be shut up and driven off immediately. To be plain about it, this is cleaning and nothing more: we make no hygiene or health claims about the products we use, and we do not pretend a valet is a medical treatment for a car.
