The substrate decides everything in masonry work. Anything touching the structure of a building, meaning a load-bearing wall, a beam, a column or a slab, needs a project drawn up by a qualified technician and authorisation from the câmara municipal; rules vary by município, so it is checked with the câmara for your address rather than assumed. Work on a facade, a roof or a shared part of a block also needs the condomínio's written agreement. On cracks we are candid: a fine, stable one can be opened, filled and re-rendered, while a crack that moves, passes through the wall or steps diagonally may be structural and deserves a technical opinion instead of a promise.
