Modular wardrobe systems are the most common request. Unlike a single boxed wardrobe, these arrive as many separate cartons and only become one piece of furniture if the setting out is right. We start from the floor and the wall rather than from the instructions, because a run of units set out square to a room that is not square will show a widening gap by the far end. Frames are levelled and joined to each other, doors and sliding tracks adjusted last, and interiors laid out around what actually goes in them: hanging heights for long coats, drawers where they are reachable, shelves spaced for what the family owns rather than what the diagram shows. The newer the block, the more likely the internal walls are plasterboard on a metal frame. That is not a problem, but it changes the fixings entirely. Rails, mirrors, wall beds and the anti-topple straps on tall units all have to reach the frame behind the board or use anchors rated to hold in a cavity. In the older houses around Paço do Lumiar it is masonry instead, and we bring both. Part of doing this properly is simply testing the wall before committing, and being straightforward when a particular wall will not carry what has been bought. Home offices make up much of the rest. Since a lot of residents here work from home some or all of the week, we assemble sit-stand frames, cable trays, drawer pedestals, shelving above the desk and acoustic panels, and we set the desk height to the person who will use it rather than to the factory default. Garages and storage rooms in the newer developments also get their share of steel racking and bike storage. The quote reflects the number of modules, how complex the system is, whether anything is being removed first, and the access from the parking to the flat.

Usually yes, provided every carton has arrived. Modular runs need to be set out together, so it is worth waiting until the order is complete rather than building half of it and joining the rest later.
Can you fix a wall bed or heavy shelf to a plasterboard wall?
We fix into the metal frame behind the board, or use cavity anchors rated for the load where the frame is not where it needs to be. We check the wall first and tell you plainly if it will not take the item.
Will you set the desk height for me?
Yes. Fixed desks are shimmed and levelled, and sit-stand frames are calibrated and the memory positions set for whoever will be sitting there, which is worth doing properly if you work from home.
