Laundry & Linen Service in Belém
Belém splits neatly in two for anyone dealing with linen. Along the Junqueira and around Pedrouços there are apartments let to visitors all year, because the monuments and the riverside bring people in outside the summer as well. Up in Restelo and the Alto da Ajuda there are large family houses and senhorial flats with four, five or six beds made up, and textiles on a scale a domestic machine was never designed for. We handle both ends: collection and delivery at the door, washing and ironing of bed linen, treatment of towels and household textiles, and replacement sets held in rotation so a turnover never waits on a wash cycle.

About our service in Belém
For the let apartments the constraint is the calendar, not the quantity. Guests here often stay a few nights and leave mid-morning, with the next arrival the same day, and a flat off the Junqueira has one small machine and a service balcony that sees no sun after lunch. Running two or three sets per bed removes the problem entirely: the beds go back together from clean linen straight away, the used sets leave with us, and the pressed ones return before the next booking needs them. We keep the count so you know at any moment what is in the flat and what is in treatment. Restelo houses bring a different job. Six made-up beds means six duvets, a stack of bath sheets, bedspreads, and mattress and pillow protectors that get changed far less often than they should because nobody wants to tackle them at home. Add garden-facing curtains that collect dust and pollen from the gardens behind the palace, and blankets that come out of a linen cupboard smelling faintly of the cupboard itself rather than of anything clean. Those are workshop items: washed at a temperature suited to the fabric, dried completely, and returned pressed and folded so they go straight back on a shelf. Hard mains water is the quiet culprit behind tired-looking Belém linen. It leaves towels rigid and gradually pulls white cotton towards grey, which owners usually blame on age. Proper dosing, a full rinse and finishing in the workshop bring most of that back, though not all of it, and we will tell you honestly when a set has simply reached the end of its life rather than sell you a wash it will not survive. Many owners here are abroad for stretches of the year, so we arrange everything with the cleaner, caretaker or property manager, in Portuguese, English or French.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions about laundry and linen in Belém:
We have six beds in Restelo. How many sets should be in rotation?
Two per bed is the minimum that works and three is comfortable, and the right answer depends on how often you use us. With three, one set is in use, one is on the shelf and one is with us, and a delayed collection never leaves a bed bare. We work the count out with you from the bed sizes rather than guessing, because buying too much linen is as expensive a mistake as buying too little.
Can you deal with duvets and bedspreads, or only sheets?
Those are among the main reasons people here call. A winter duvet or a large bedspread will not wash properly in a domestic drum and will never dry indoors in Lisbon, which is why they end up going years between cleans. They go through the workshop and come back dry and folded, ready for the cupboard.
Our towels have gone hard and the white sheets look grey. Is that fixable?
Partly, and it is a water problem rather than a washing mistake. Hard water leaves mineral and detergent residue in the fibres, which stiffens towels and dulls whites. A correctly dosed workshop wash with a full rinse recovers a good deal of the softness and brightness. Cotton that has been washed hundreds of times is thin as well as grey, and that part we cannot reverse; we will say so rather than keep treating it.
