Maths Tutoring at Home in Carcavelos
Carcavelos has a university campus in it, and that shapes the kind of maths help people ask us for. Alongside the usual school work, we get undergraduates who chose a business or economics degree expecting little mathematics and met calculus, linear algebra and statistics in the first semester. Many of them have not done serious algebra in several years and are trying to learn two things at once: the new material and the tools it assumes. Arranja Já sends a tutor to your home, in Carcavelos, the Parede, São Domingos de Rana or Oeiras, at whatever hour the timetable allows.

About our service in Carcavelos
For undergraduates, we almost always start at a level below the course itself. Students failing first-semester quantitative methods rarely fail on the new concepts; they fail on manipulating expressions, on logarithms and exponentials, on function notation and on reading summation signs. That foundation can be rebuilt quickly when it is addressed directly, and doing so changes the experience of lectures entirely, because the student stops fighting two difficulties at the same time on every exercise. We use the course's own problem sets rather than generic exercises, since those show the level the lecturer actually expects, which a textbook rarely does. Past papers from the same course are worth more than any amount of generic practice. Statistics deserves separate treatment of its own, because it is the subject where most people give up unnecessarily. The arithmetic is done by software; the difficulty is conceptual. What a sample represents, what a hypothesis actually claims, what a confidence interval does and does not say, and why a result can be significant and uninteresting at the same time. Students who memorise test procedures without the underlying logic fail the moment a question is phrased differently. We build the reasoning with concrete examples before touching any formula, using data the student recognises rather than abstract urns and dice. Once the logic is in place, the procedures take care of themselves and exam questions stop being a lottery. For the school students in the area, the work is a good deal more conventional: curriculum support, exam technique and the algebra that everything else rests on. We keep the same tutor across the year wherever possible, because continuity matters more than any particular method, and a tutor who remembers last term's weak points saves time every session. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, and we are closed on Sunday.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we get in Carcavelos:
I am failing quantitative methods at university. Where do we start?
With algebra, nearly always. Most students who struggle with first-year quantitative courses are not defeated by the new ideas but by manipulating expressions, logarithms and function notation. Rebuilding that takes a handful of well-directed sessions and transforms how the lectures feel, because there is only one difficulty left per exercise instead of two.
Statistics feels like memorising recipes. Is there another way?
Yes, and it is the only one that survives an exam. Once you understand what a sample represents and what a test is actually claiming, the procedures follow and you can handle a question phrased in an unfamiliar way. We work from concrete examples first and bring in the formulas afterwards, which takes longer at the start and much less time overall.
How much does maths tutoring in Carcavelos cost?
It depends on the level, which differs a great deal between school and university work, how often sessions run and how long they are. Intensive preparation before an assessment is a different shape of work from regular support. Tell us the situation and we will send a no-obligation quote.
