Maths Tutoring at Home in Sintra

About our service in Sintra

Because the sessions are weekly and a journey is involved at each end, we design every one of them to stand on its own. Each session closes a topic rather than leaving one half-open, and the student is left with specific work that can be checked at the start of the following week. That structure matters more here than in a city centre, where a missed session is easily rearranged. It also makes the progress visible, which keeps families committed through the long middle of the school year when nothing dramatic is happening and motivation tends to drift. The content of the sessions depends a good deal on the school the student attends. Students in international schools here face the same programmes as anywhere else, and we work to the conventions each of those programmes expects. Students in Portuguese schools face large classes, where an individual question often goes unasked for weeks, and the single most useful thing a tutor does is restore the habit of asking. We make the student explain their reasoning out loud in every session, which is uncomfortable at first and quickly becomes normal, and most of them start speaking up in class again within a term. That single change multiplies the value of the lessons they already attend. Underneath both of those cases sits exactly the same foundation work: fractions, proportion, negative numbers and basic algebra. Almost every student who believes they cannot do maths is actually missing two or three of these, and almost every one of them can be fixed in a term of steady work. We start there even when the family came to us about the current year's syllabus, because building on an unstable foundation wastes everyone's time. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, and we are closed on Sunday.
