That is precisely what examiners test when they want to separate understanding from recall. The second focus is the quantitative side, which is where most chemistry marks are lost. Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and purity are individually straightforward and become treacherous when chained into one long problem, because a single slip early on corrupts everything after it. We teach a fixed procedure with units written at every step, and we insist on it even in easy questions, so that the method is automatic by the time the questions are not easy. Students resist the extra writing at first and stop resisting after the first test it rescues. In physics, the recurring difficulty in large classes is that nobody ever asks the question they did not understand. One-to-one sessions remove that option, since the tutor asks the student to explain their reasoning aloud and the gaps become audible immediately. Most students carry the habit back into the classroom within a term, and that single change multiplies the value of the lessons they already sit through. It is often the most useful thing a tutor does all year. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, and we are closed on Sunday.
