That last step is the decisive one, because it usually reveals that the vocabulary was known and the obstacle was the way rapid speech joins words together. Once a student understands that, listening stops feeling like a lottery and starts improving week by week. Students notice it themselves, usually before any assessment confirms it. Speaking time is the second gain, and it is the most immediate of the two. In a one-to-one session a student speaks more than in a whole week of classes, and that alone changes performance in oral assessments. We work with the formats the school uses, describing images, giving opinions and reacting to unexpected questions, and we hold corrections until the end rather than interrupting. Correcting every word as someone speaks is the most effective way to silence them, which is the exact opposite of the objective. We note the recurring errors instead and work through them once the student has finished speaking. The third element of the work is the bridge back to the classroom itself. We follow the unit the class is covering and the teacher's assessment formats, and we work on the habit of noting a doubt and raising it later. Students from large classes rarely ask anything, and recovering that habit multiplies the value of the lessons they already sit through every week. It is often the most durable thing a tutor leaves behind. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, and we are closed on Sunday.
