Leather is cleaned with a pH-neutral preparation and a soft brush, worked gently and wiped off, never with the all-purpose degreaser that lifts the dirt impressively on the day and leaves the hide dry, faded and eventually cracked along the bolsters. Getting it out means taking the mats and boot liner out, agitating the carpet and extracting rather than passing a nozzle over the top of it. We should also say clearly what a home valet is not. It is not paint correction. We do not polish out scratches, we do not touch bodywork or dents, and we will not tell you that a machine and a bottle will make swirl marks disappear from a dark car. What cleaning does is present the paint at its best and remove what is sitting on it. Outside, we wash with very little water, so there is no hose across a block-paved drive and nothing running off into the garden or the storm drain, and where the car is too heavily soiled for that method we will say so rather than risk marking it.
