Pest Control in Alfama

About our service in Alfama

Pest control in Alfama starts before your front door. The narrow lanes and stairways around the Castelo, Mouraria and São Miguel keep vans away, so we work with portable equipment that can be carried by hand. We check by phone how many flights of stairs there are and whether there is a side entrance, so we arrive prepared instead of improvising on site. It sounds like a logistics detail, but it is what separates a proper intervention from a wasted visit. The neighbourhood also has a pest profile of its own. The buildings are centuries old, with timber structures, original floorboards and walls that hold damp all year, and in those conditions woodworm and termites work slowly and without any outward sign. Flats sit close together, with thin walls and ducts improvised over decades of alterations, so cockroaches and rodents move from home to home with ease. We inspect timber, skirting boards and damp areas before applying anything, and we say clearly when the problem belongs to the building rather than to the flat. Alfama packs restaurants and holiday flats into every street, and the two feed each other. Restaurants generate food waste and constant heat, while holiday flats bring luggage and a weekly change of guests, which is how bed bugs arrive. For the first we work at times that do not disturb service; for the second we inspect mattresses, bed bases and headboards and leave a written record of what was done. We arrive in an unmarked van and, when there is nowhere to park, on foot, because discretion counts for a lot in a neighbourhood where everyone knows everyone. One point often goes unnoticed: many buildings here have tiny courtyards shared by three or four flats, where waste and standing water collect. They feed the whole building and nobody claims them. When that is the case we say plainly that indoor treatment will be short-lived until that space is cleared and treated, and we help you put it to the other residents.
