Alvalade was planned in the 1940s and 1950s around low blocks, interior courtyards and tree-lined streets, and that layout left no room for private swimming pools. There are essentially none. The newer condominium pools near Roma and São João de Brito are smaller but shared, and shared pools raise the question nobody enjoys: who is responsible. We are happy to work to an agreed schedule for the building, keep a written record of every reading and every job, and deal with the management directly so owners are not arguing about it in an assembly. Practically, we test and balance the water, brush and vacuum floor and walls, clean the waterline, service pumps and filters, calibrate dosing where it is automated, and check covers, lights and level controls. Trees in the courtyards mean skimmers block more than you would expect for a city pool, so baskets and flow get checked every visit. We also cover the quieter version of pool work in this neighbourhood: keeping alive a pool that is not in Alvalade at all. Plenty of families here have a house with a pool in the Sintra hills or further south, and it needs opening in spring, watching through the summer and closing before the winter rain.
