The mistake we see most in the blocks of central Algés and the Alto de Algés is an outdoor unit shut inside a glazed enclosed balcony with the sliding windows closed while it runs. The machine expels heat, that heat has nowhere to go, and within minutes it is drawing in air that keeps getting hotter. Indoors there is another detail typical of the area, between Miraflores, the Dafundo and the Cruz Quebrada: partition walls are thin and rooms are small, which amplifies any noise. We choose the mounting wall for the indoor unit with that in mind, avoid fixing to hollow partitions without reinforcement and use anchors suited to what is actually behind the plaster. The pipework takes the shortest route out and the condensate ties into a soil stack, never running down the façade onto the pavement, which in a building over the street is a complaint waiting to happen. Before leaving we confirm the fall with water and clear away the drilling dust.
