Blocked Door Opening in Lisboa
A front door in Lisboa can close behind you in a second. An open window on the Areeiro side of the flat, a draught rising up a stairwell in Arroios, and the door pulls itself shut with the keys still on the hall table. Arranja Já opens doors right across the city, from the old buildings of the Baixa, Chiado and Graça to the flats along the Avenidas Novas and the blocks around Campolide and Estrela. We work Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 8pm, and someone standing on a landing unable to get into their own home goes to the front of the list. Send a WhatsApp message with the address and a photograph of the door and its lock, and we will tell you what is possible and when we can be there.

About our service in Lisboa
Most of what we are called out to falls into four situations. A door that slammed with the keys inside is by far the commonest, and in a city this windy it happens to careful people. A key that snaps in the cylinder comes next, and it is rarely a surprise: it is usually a worn original or a poorly cut copy that has been stiff to turn for weeks. Then there is the lock that will not turn at all, either because the mechanism has reached the end of its life or because the door has shifted in its frame. And in the older parts of the city, a timber door swollen with damp can bind so tightly that the lock was never the problem in the first place. What we ask is that you do not have a go yourself. Shouldering the door, carrying on turning a key that has already begun to bend, or working at the gap with a card or a blade is how a straightforward opening becomes a full replacement, and it frequently damages the frame as well, which costs far more to make good than any cylinder. Leave the door as it is and call us. When we arrive we look at it first and tell you what we expect to be able to do. Where the lock allows it, the door is opened and left working; where it does not, you hear that before we touch anything. A quote depends on the kind of lock, the state of the cylinder, whether it has to be replaced, which floor you are on and how the building is entered, and you are given the figure before work starts rather than after it. We also ask you to show that the home is yours: identification carrying the address, a tenancy agreement, a bill in your name, or confirmation from the building administrator. That is a protection for you as much as for us, and it is the question you should expect from anyone you let near your door. If you reach us late on a Saturday, the honest answer may be Monday morning, and we would rather say so than leave you waiting on a promise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we are asked by people locked out in Lisboa:
The wind slammed my door and my keys are inside. Should I wait for a neighbour with a spare?
If a neighbour or a relative genuinely has a spare key nearby, that is the simplest solution and worth trying first. If nobody does, message us rather than sitting on the stairs, and please do not start pushing at the door while you wait, because that is exactly what turns an opening into a repair.
Why do you need to see my documents when I am the one locked out?
Because we have no way of knowing whose door it is, and neither does anyone else on that landing. Identification with the address on it, a tenancy agreement, a recent bill or a word from the administrator settles it in a moment. A locksmith who opens a door without asking would open yours for a stranger just as readily.
Once you have opened it, do I have to change the whole lock?
Not necessarily. Plenty of locks come through the opening intact and carry on working normally. When the cylinder is worn out, damaged or the keys are lost somewhere in the city, replacing it is the sensible step and we can do that in the same visit; anything planned beyond it, such as moving to a different type of lock, is separate work we can quote for later.
