The routine is the same whatever the works were. Debris and old frames or sanitaryware go out first, to an authorised disposal point. Then the flat is cleaned downwards — ceilings, tops of doors and cupboards, the new reveals, the cills, the skirtings — and the floor is last, once everything has been dry-extracted. That order exists because of one predictable failure: mopping too soon. Cement dust and water make a slurry that runs into grout lines, into the joints of a terrazzo or mosaic floor and into the seams of a laminate one, and it dries hard enough that removing it becomes an abrasive job. Products are then matched to the floor, since laminate will not take standing water, stone will not take acid and micro-cement clouds easily. Window and frame work is the long part, and after a replacement programme it is the whole point. New units come out of the works with dust ground into the runners, mastic smeared across the profiles and drainage slots blocked. All of that is cleared mechanically before the glass is washed, because grit sitting in a runner is exactly what puts a permanent scratch across a brand-new pane. While we are there, the reveals get particular attention: cutting out an old frame leaves cement debris in the recess and in the gap behind the new plaster line, and that is where the dust hides and keeps falling out. Ventilation grilles are cleaned for the same reason. The limits, and we set them before we start. Paint dried into a grout line, cement hardened onto a stone cill, silicone smeared beyond its bead and glass scored by a trowel or by protective film left on a hot facade until the adhesive bonded — none of that will clean off, and we identify each one on the walk-round instead of letting it be blamed on us afterwards. Nor do we complete the builder's work: touch-in paint, missing grout and a badly seated skirting are for the contractor, or for our bricklayer service. And on a window job the dust keeps working out of the reveals for days, so a lighter second pass is a genuinely useful part of the plan. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, closed on Sunday, and we set the date on the day the trades actually leave.

Should we replace the silicone in the bathroom while you are here?
That is not our work and we would not pretend otherwise. Cleaning will remove smeared silicone from a tile face where it has gone beyond the bead, but if the bead itself is badly formed or has gaps, it needs cutting out and reapplying — a job for whoever fitted it, or for our bricklayer service. We will point out where we think the sealing is inadequate, because after a clean it is easy to see.
