Irrigation is usually the single biggest lever in this area, because so many of these gardens depend on it entirely. Zoning is what goes wrong: lawn and shrub beds sharing a zone, so one is drowned while the other is dry; heads knocked out of arc by mowers over the years; a valve that no longer closes fully. We check the system zone by zone, separate what should not share a programme, and set longer, less frequent runs early in the morning to send roots down and cut evaporation losses. Water restrictions can vary by município, and a system tuned to the planting handles a dry summer far better than one simply left running longer. Where the client is a condominium the work has to be agreed collectively before it starts, and there are usually rules on machinery hours, gate access and where a van may stand. We provide a written scope, work to the approved hours and leave the administrator a record of each visit, including anything that needs a decision: a tree root under a kerb, a bed that has outgrown its position, a sprinkler head lost under a shrub. Prunings and clippings go with us to a licensed disposal point. If a tree is to be removed we identify the species first, because cork oak and holm oak are legally protected in Portugal and olives have their own rules, so authorisation may be required and we do not promise felling on request.
