Professional Painting in Campo de Ourique
Campo de Ourique is one of the neighbourhoods we are asked into most in central Lisboa, and our team travels out to flats around Prazeres, Santo Condestável, the Amoreiras end and the streets either side of Rua Ferreira Borges and the Mercado. The housing is largely inter-war and post-war: generous rooms, ceilings well above modern height, plaster cornices and centre roses, panelled doors, timber casement windows and, in most buildings, no lift. That combination decides how the work is done. It takes hand cutting-in rather than fast roller work, proper access platforms, and a plan for getting materials up several flights without marking a communal staircase that belongs to every owner in the building.

About our service in Campo de Ourique
Period rooms punish shortcuts. A cornice run, a ceiling rose or a moulded architrave cannot be sprayed over from a stepladder and left; the detail has to be cut in with a brush, and years of accumulated paint often need easing back first so the profile does not disappear under another layer. Ceiling heights here mean a platform rather than steps for anything above the picture rail. And old plaster is rarely flat, so filling is a judgement about how much to chase before you start making the wall worse. We would rather explain that trade-off at the survey than surprise you halfway through. The other characteristic of these flats is that the paint history is long. Under the current colour there may be decades of distemper, oil-bound paint and later emulsions, and some of those layers are chalky, greasy or glossy. Anything applied straight over them will not hold. So walls are washed down, glossy areas keyed back, chalky ones stabilised with the right primer, and old water marks blocked so they do not bleed through. Which brings up damp, because a good few of these buildings have it. Painting over damp does not fix it: get the cause identified with moisture-detection, have the plaster and waterproofing sorted through bricklayer, or a leaking pipe dealt with by water-leak-repair, and decorate afterwards. Diagnosis, masonry, paint, in that order. One thing that surprises people is touching up. A wall that has been white for twenty years is no longer the white in the tin, so patching a single repair leaves a visible cloud however carefully it is feathered. Either the whole wall gets recoated or the colour is adjusted to match, and we will tell you which we think is worth doing. Timber windows and shutters are handled as separate work: degreased, sanded to a key, primed for old timber, then enamelled, with the manufacturer's drying time allowed between coats. Common parts, including the facade and that staircase, need the condomínio's agreement, and the building rules will usually say when work can be carried out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from Campo de Ourique:
Can you just touch up the patch where the shelf came off the wall?
We can fill and prime it, but be prepared for the repair to show. Paint changes with light and age, so the white on a wall that was decorated years ago is not the white you would buy today, and a spot repair reads as a patch even when the filling is invisible. The usual answers are to recoat the whole wall from corner to corner, or to have the colour adjusted to match what is on there now. We will say honestly which one we think is worth the money in your room.
My building has no lift and I am on the fourth floor. Does that change things?
It changes the logistics and it does feed into the quote. Everything is carried up by hand, including sheets, boards, filler and access platforms, and the communal staircase has to be protected and left clean, since it belongs to the whole condomínio. We plan loading and delivery around that and agree the working hours the building rules allow. It is not an obstacle, just something to organise properly rather than discover on the first morning.
The paint is flaking off the wall behind the kitchen units. What is going on?
Flaking usually means the coating never bonded, or that something is wetting the wall from behind. In a kitchen it is often grease and steam on the old surface, in which case washing down, keying and the correct primer solve it. If the plaster is soft or discoloured, water is the culprit and paint will not hold. Have it looked at with moisture-detection, put right through bricklayer or water-leak-repair as appropriate, and decorate once it is dry.
