Short daily bursts keep roots near the surface, exactly where the summer heat reaches them, so we set systems to run longer and less often, early in the morning, and add mulch to slow evaporation. Local rules on water use can vary by município, and an efficient system copes better whatever the year brings. Hard mains water clogs drippers, so cleaning them belongs in the routine. Before any tree is removed we identify the species, because cork oak and holm oak are legally protected in Portugal and olives have their own regime; felling can require authorisation and is never something we promise on the spot.
