Physics & Chemistry Tutoring in Parque das Nações
Science is the subject where a child following the Portuguese curriculum in a second language loses the most ground, and the reason is specific. Mathematics has symbols that cross languages, and languages are explicitly taught as languages. Physics and chemistry sit in between: the content is conceptual, the assessment is written, and the vocabulary is technical and entirely new even to Portuguese children. A newly arrived student is therefore learning the science and the words for it at the same time. Arranja Já sends a tutor comfortable in both languages to your home, in Parque das Nações, Olivais, Moscavide, Sacavém or Alvalade.

About our service in Parque das Nações
We work on the vocabulary deliberately, by topic, and we do not pretend it is incidental. Terms such as grandeza, rendimento, condutor, solução, soluto, massa volúmica and transferência de energia appear in every question, and a student who hesitates over one of them loses the thread of an exercise they could otherwise complete. The student builds the list, writes a definition in their own words and uses each term in a sentence, which is slower than being handed a glossary and far more durable. Within a term, most children stop translating in their heads and start reading the question directly. The list is usually much shorter than parents fear, somewhere between twenty and thirty words per topic. The second piece is the written answer. Portuguese science marking rewards explicit reasoning: naming the principle, referring to the data given, and stating a conclusion that follows from both. Children arriving from systems where short answers were acceptable write too little and lose marks while understanding the science perfectly well. We rewrite answers together, with the mark scheme visible, until the expected shape becomes automatic. This is one of the fastest improvements available in the whole subject, and it carries over to geography and history, which mark written answers the same way. The third is protecting the child's sense of themselves as capable. A student who was strong in science and suddenly receives poor marks concludes they have lost an ability, when in reality they are reading a second language under time pressure. We say this plainly, with evidence from the diagnosis, because a child who has decided they are bad at a subject stops trying, and effort is the one thing we cannot supply for them. Naming the real cause usually restores it immediately. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, and we are closed on Sunday.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we get in Parque das Nações:
Should the sessions be in Portuguese or in English?
Mainly in Portuguese, because that is the language of the assessment, with English used to unblock an explanation when it is genuinely needed. Teaching the whole session in English is comfortable and postpones the problem. We shift the balance as the child's Portuguese improves, which usually happens faster than families expect.
He understands the science when we discuss it at home in English. Why the poor marks?
Because the exam is a written task in Portuguese with technical vocabulary and an expected answer structure. Understanding the concept is necessary and not sufficient. We work on the vocabulary and on the shape of the written answer, and marks usually move before the next reporting period.
How much does science tutoring in Parque das Nações cost?
It depends on the year group, how often sessions run, their length and whether sessions are one-to-one or shared between siblings. Work that combines science with language support has its own shape. Tell us the situation and we will send a no-obligation quote.
