The method holds either way. Waste first — bagged or loaded, and taken to an authorised disposal point, since construction rubble is regulated and does not belong in household bins. Then the space is cleaned downwards: ceilings and light fittings, tops of doors and units, window reveals, skirtings, floors last of all, with everything dry-extracted before water is introduced. The reason is the same in a flat in Moscavide and in a farmhouse at Fanhões. Cement and plaster dust plus water is a slurry, and slurry sets into grout lines, into the joints of terracotta and stone, into the seams of vinyl and into the grain of old boards. Once it has hardened there it stops being a cleaning job. Floors then get the treatment they can take: neutral products and minimal water on timber and laminate, nothing acidic on stone. Glass and frames take the largest share of the hours, and where a facade's windows have just been replaced it is the largest share by a distance. Runners and drainage slots fill with dust and grit, mastic gets smeared over the new profiles, and protective film that stayed on too long leaves adhesive behind. Frames are cleared mechanically first, then glass is washed, because grit in a runner is what puts a permanent scratch across a new pane. Ventilation and air-conditioning grilles are cleaned as well: they store what was airborne during the works and return it to the room as soon as the system runs. Outside, where the works reached a yard, a terrace or an outbuilding, that is stripped rather than hosed. Then what we will not claim. Cement cured into porous stone, paint dried into a grout line, silicone smeared past its bead and glass scratched by a trowel or by baked-on tape are damage, and we identify them before treating the area rather than after. We clean; we do not finish the works. Touch-in paint, missing grout, a skirting that never sat properly is for the contractor who did the job, or for our bricklayer service. And in a full refurbishment one visit is not the end of the dust: it keeps emerging from grilles and gaps for days, so a lighter second pass before occupation is normal. We are here Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, closed on Sunday, and we set the date on the works' real finish, not the scheduled one.

What it will not be is snagged — if the painter owes a coat or a bead of silicone is missing, a clean flat makes that obvious, which is worth having before you sign off the works. We will point out what we notice and leave you to take it up with the contractor.
