Road grime behaves differently from ordinary dust. It has an oily component that holds the particles onto the glass, so it does not rinse off in a shower and a dry wipe just smears it. The answer is not more force but more water and more patience: demineralised water flooded over the surface, a soft brush at a controlled pressure, and a second pass over anything still holding. That is the whole trick, and it is why we refuse to work with a pressure washer. Aimed at a frame joint, high pressure can drive water past the seal to the junction box on the back of the module, and it can also start lifting the sealant around the mounting points. Abrasives are equally off the table: the anti-reflective coating is a thin surface layer and scrubbing dulls it for good. So are acidic and alkaline detergents. And it is worth remembering that aggressive cleaning is a standard reason for a manufacturer to reject a warranty claim on the array. We will not work on hot glass. A module that has been in full sun all morning holds serious heat, and cold water hitting it is a thermal shock that can seed micro-cracks in the cells, invisible now and permanent. Benfica appointments therefore go in early, or late in the afternoon, or on an overcast day, and we would rather move a booking than take that risk. Access is planned around the building. Flat roof terraces on the newer blocks are usually straightforward; older pitched roofs need a ladder, a harness and an anchor line, or a platform, or a telescopic pole worked from below when the rows are reachable. We never walk on the modules and we never ask a customer to go up and take a look first. Once washed we clear the frames, the rails and the roof drainage, pull out the debris that has packed under the rows and give the installation a proper visual once-over. If we spot cracked glass, delamination, heat marking or a burnt connector we photograph it and refer you to your installer or a certified electrician. The inverter, the DC wiring and the protections stay closed: we clean, we do not repair.
