On the smaller villa plots around Estoril that duty is easy to overlook, precisely because the land reads as garden rather than as terrain. Our role is the work itself: we cut, we gather, we remove. We do not handle applications for you and we make no claim to certify your property as compliant. The rules and deadlines change from year to year and vary by município, so check with the câmara municipal for what applies to your address before you plan around it. Terraced ground is the defining feature here, and it dictates the method. A machine that would clear an open field in a morning is no use on a plot reached by steps, so most of the work above the line is done with brushcutters and handsaws, with material carried up or down to the road. Retaining walls need care: roots that have got into the stonework cannot be ripped out without risking the structure, so they are cut back and treated rather than dragged. On parcels that have stood idle at Livramento or Alapraia we regularly turn up construction rubble under the growth, dumped bags, and old drainage or irrigation tanks that nobody mentioned. We stop and photograph anything of that kind before continuing. Mature specimen trees are common in Estoril gardens, and they are not all fair game. Cork oak and holm oak are legally protected in Portugal, olive trees are regulated, and any of these may be standing in an old villa garden. We identify what is there before a saw comes out, and where a tree turns out to be protected, felling requires an authorisation rather than a same-day decision. Everything cut is taken to a licensed disposal point, with none of it dealt with by fire on the property. And an honest note: cutting a neglected garden back once resets it, but without maintenance it closes over again within a season.
