Land Clearing in Estoril
Estoril is a place of older villas on generous plots, and the clearing work here reflects that. Above the line at Monte Estoril and São João do Estoril the ground steps down in terraces held by retaining walls, with mature trees planted decades ago and hedges that were once kept tight. Inland at Alapraia and Livramento there are larger, plainer parcels, some waiting on a building project. We work across all of it. A good share of our enquiries come from owners abroad or from agents managing a property between tenancies, where nobody has walked the lower part of the garden in a long while. We come out, look, and quote from what we actually see.

About our service in Estoril
Portuguese law requires landowners to clear vegetation on their land every year for wildfire prevention, with managed strips maintained around buildings, and the câmara municipal checks this and may step in where an owner has not acted. On the smaller villa plots around Estoril that duty is easy to overlook, precisely because the land reads as garden rather than as terrain. Our role is the work itself: we cut, we gather, we remove. We do not handle applications for you and we make no claim to certify your property as compliant. The rules and deadlines change from year to year and vary by município, so check with the câmara municipal for what applies to your address before you plan around it. Terraced ground is the defining feature here, and it dictates the method. A machine that would clear an open field in a morning is no use on a plot reached by steps, so most of the work above the line is done with brushcutters and handsaws, with material carried up or down to the road. Retaining walls need care: roots that have got into the stonework cannot be ripped out without risking the structure, so they are cut back and treated rather than dragged. On parcels that have stood idle at Livramento or Alapraia we regularly turn up construction rubble under the growth, dumped bags, and old drainage or irrigation tanks that nobody mentioned. We stop and photograph anything of that kind before continuing. Mature specimen trees are common in Estoril gardens, and they are not all fair game. Cork oak and holm oak are legally protected in Portugal, olive trees are regulated, and any of these may be standing in an old villa garden. We identify what is there before a saw comes out, and where a tree turns out to be protected, felling requires an authorisation rather than a same-day decision. Everything cut is taken to a licensed disposal point, with none of it dealt with by fire on the property. And an honest note: cutting a neglected garden back once resets it, but without maintenance it closes over again within a season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we are asked about clearance in Estoril:
My garden is on terraces with old retaining walls. Will clearing damage them?
It should not, provided the work is done with that in mind. Roots that have worked into dry-stone or masonry walls are cut back and the growth removed above, rather than pulled out, because dragging a root system out of a wall is how stones start moving. We look at the condition of the walls at the visit and say plainly if any section already looks unstable, so you can decide whether it needs attention before or after the clearing.
There is a big old olive tree in the middle of the plot. Can it come out?
Not as part of a routine clearance. Olive trees are regulated in Portugal, and cork oak and holm oak are legally protected, so removal is not something we agree to over a message. We identify the tree on site, tell you what category it falls into, and if it is protected or regulated the route is an authorisation, not a chainsaw. In most cases what the owner actually needs is the undergrowth around it cleared and the low branches lifted, which we can do without touching the tree's status.
The property is let out and I am not in Portugal. Can you organise this remotely?
Yes. We need written instruction from you, a way of getting onto the plot, and a contact locally if there are tenants to warn. We visit, send photographs and a written quote, and once you approve it we agree a date and send images at the end. What stays with you is the legal side: the annual clearing duty belongs to the owner, and since the rules and deadlines change from year to year and vary by município, check with the câmara municipal about your own parcel.
