The towers at Parque das Nações hold offices on a scale the older parts of the city never had: open floors with dozens of workstations, glazed meeting rooms, kitchenettes shared between two levels and technical areas with restricted entry. Building management controls who comes in, at what time and by which route. The first thing we deal with is therefore administrative: registering the team with the security desk, requesting access cards, booking the goods lift and confirming the waste route down to the loading bay. We also agree in writing which areas are ours and which stay with the building's own contract, because shared lobbies and lift halls are often covered separately. Once that is settled at the outset, the cleaning no longer depends on last-minute authorisations. On an open floor the dirt gathers in predictable places. The glass partitions and doors of the meeting rooms show fingerprints within two days and are among the first things a visitor notices. Shared desks collect crumbs and coffee marks, especially where workstations rotate. Entrance matting holds the sand carried in from the Passeio do Tejo and the Alameda dos Oceanos and needs frequent vacuuming. We work zone by zone, with the same team repeating the same route every time, and we clean monitors, docking stations and telephones dry, with microfibre, with no liquid sprayed anywhere near sockets and cabling. The kitchenette and the restrooms carry most of the weight in how an office is judged. We wash and descale the coffee machines, empty grounds and capsules into the right stream, clean microwaves and fridges inside at the agreed intervals, and restock paper, soap and hand towels before supplies run out. Waste is separated according to the tower's rules, which are usually stricter than the municipal collection. We work Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 8pm, fitting the work in before the teams arrive or after they leave; we do not cover night shifts or Sundays.
