Pressure Washing in Cascais
We cover Cascais, and our team travels out to houses across the concelho, from the town centre and Torre to Birre, Manique, Alcabideche, Quinta da Marinha and the exposed run towards Guincho. Almost all of this work is outdoors. Atlantic wind carries salt a long way inland, and it settles on render, timber, stone and furniture alike, dulling everything and feeding growth on the shaded sides. Terraces, decking, pool surrounds and driveways then look neglected long before the house does. A good number of our clients are not in Portugal when the work happens, so we survey with a keyholder, quote in writing, agree dates and send photographs of what was done.

About our service in Cascais
Timber decking is where most damage gets done in Cascais, usually by someone with a borrowed machine and good intentions. Wood is soft, and a jet held close tears the surface fibres out, leaving a furry, splintered board that greys again within a season and holds even more dirt than before. Here pressure is matched to the substrate in the strictest sense: decking is washed with a wide fan, at low pressure, always along the grain, and after a test on a board in a corner where nobody looks. Render, natural stone paving and pool copings each get their own tested setting too, since salt-weathered render is often more fragile than it appears. Before any water is used, the terrace is emptied and the surroundings are protected. Cushions and furniture are moved or covered, exterior lighting, sockets, irrigation controllers, pool equipment and the plant room are shielded, doors and window frames are sheeted, and planting close to the work is watered first. Around a pool this matters more than usual, because rinse water carrying detergent and organic debris should not run into the pool or straight into a rainwater gully. We contain and collect the residue instead, and we schedule pool surround work in agreement with whoever looks after the water. Water use is planned as well: summers here are dry, municipal restrictions on use can apply, and a well-sequenced job needs far less water than an open hose. On results we prefer plain speech. Salt film comes off easily and comes back, because the wind keeps delivering it, so seaward elevations and terraces are best kept on a routine rather than rescued once a decade. Growth on a shaded north wall will return for the same reason. Ingrained oil on a driveway, rust from railing bases or garden furniture feet, and old barbecue marks on stone leave a mark behind, and some stains will not come out however carefully they are treated. Roofs are inspected before any cleaning is discussed, and an aged or brittle covering is not washed at pressure. If the house is due for painting, we wash first, let it dry and the painters follow.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Cascais homeowners ask before we start:
We arrive in June and want the terrace ready. How do we organise it from abroad?
The same way most of our Cascais clients do. We arrange access with your keyholder, property manager or neighbour, survey the terrace and everything around it, and send you a written scope and quote you can approve by message. Work is booked for a date comfortably before you travel so the surfaces are dry and the furniture back in place, and we photograph the result. One thing worth planning early is the water supply, since a dry summer can bring municipal restrictions on use and it is better to schedule around that than to be caught by it.
Can the timber deck be washed without raising the grain?
Yes, if it is treated as timber rather than as a hard surface. The risk is real: pressure held close, or a narrow nozzle, tears out the soft fibres between the grain lines and leaves a rough board that traps dirt and greys faster afterwards. We work with a wide fan at low pressure, along the boards rather than across them, keeping the lance at a consistent distance, and we test on a hidden board first. Where the boards are already furred up from a previous wash, the honest answer is sanding and treating, not more water.
Salt marks on the render keep returning. Why?
Because the wind never stops delivering salt, and washing removes what has arrived rather than stopping the supply. On a seaward elevation, crystals form in the surface of the render and in any hairline crack, then draw moisture and dirt to them. The realistic approach is periodic cleaning of the exposed faces, repairing cracks so salt has fewer places to lodge, and choosing a coating appropriate to coastal exposure the next time the house is painted. We would rather explain that than pretend a single wash settles it.
