Post-Construction Cleaning in Cascais
A renovated house in Cascais leaves us a bigger job than a flat, and usually a more scattered one. Around Birre, Quinta da Marinha, Torre, Manique and out towards the Guincho, the works reach the outside as well as the inside: terraces, pool surrounds, garden paving and driveways all take mortar splashes, cement wash and a general grey coating. There is also more debris, because a full villa refurbishment produces volume rather than bags. And a good share of the owners we work for are not in the country when the builders finish, which changes how we run the job. We work across the municipality and set the handover up accordingly.

About our service in Cascais
The order is fixed. Bulk debris and packaging leave first, to an authorised disposal point, and on a house that includes the material stacked outside: mortar boards, crates, spoil, spread sand. Then the interior is worked downwards, ceilings to floors, and always dry before wet. Wetting a room that still holds cement and plaster dust makes a slurry that keys into unglazed terracotta, into travertine and into the joints of any stone floor, and it dries as hard as the mortar it came from. Villas in this area are full of surfaces that dictate the method: natural stone that must never see an acidic product, oiled or engineered timber that must not see standing water, micro-cement that clouds, and stone terraces that need stripping rather than mopping. Glazing and frames absorb the most hours in a house like this, because there is so much of it — sliding walls onto a terrace, French doors, roof lights, and the pool-house glass nobody remembers until the end. Dust packs into the runners and drainage slots, and any grit left there will be dragged across a large pane by the first cloth and scratch it, so frames are cleared mechanically before glass is washed. Where there is ducted air conditioning, the grilles and accessible parts get done too; a system that stood open through the works has stored fine dust and will hand it back the day it is switched on. For owners who are not here, we run the end of the job as a handover: a walk-through recorded in photographs, room by room, including the marks we could not remove and anything the builders still owe. Because some marks do stay. Cement cured into porous stone, paint dried into a grout line, silicone dragged past its bead, glass scored by a trowel or by protective film left on through a Cascais summer until the adhesive bonded — that is damage, and we identify it rather than let it be blamed on the clean. We also do not do the contractor's snagging; missing grout, touch-in paint and a loose skirting go back to them, or to our bricklayer service. Fine dust keeps falling for days after a full renovation, so a lighter second pass before furniture arrives is sensible. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, closed on Sunday, and we book against the real end of the works.

Frequently Asked Questions
What owners renovating a house here usually want to know:
I live abroad and cannot be there when the builders finish. How does that work?
It is a large part of what we do in this municipality. We arrange access with whoever holds the keys, agree the scope in writing before starting, and finish with a room-by-room photographic record — including close-ups of anything we could not remove and anything the contractor has left unfinished. You get a clear picture of the state of the house without having to fly in to inspect it, and a list of what to raise with your builder.
There is cement wash all over the terrace and the pool surround. Can that be stripped?
Usually a great deal of it, and it is a stripping job rather than a wash. The products that dissolve cement quickest are acidic, and acid on limestone, travertine or a lot of the stone used around pools will etch and lighten it permanently, so we work mechanically and with materials chosen for the stone. Where mortar has cured hard into an open-pored slab, expect some shadow to remain. We test a corner and show you the result before doing the whole area.
The renovation produced a huge amount of rubble. Is that part of the job?
Yes, and it is one of the main things we assess on the visit, because volume is what drives it. Construction waste is regulated and has to go to an authorised disposal point, not into household bins, so it has to be loaded, transported and tipped properly. Access matters too — a gravel drive a lorry can reach is a very different proposition from a hillside plot where everything is carried up to the road.
