Thermal Imaging Inspection in Lumiar

About our service in Lumiar

The principle is simple and it works well: with the system running for a while, the screed above each pipe sits warmer than the screed between pipes, and the thermal image draws the run of the coils sharply enough to mark the floor out with tape. That is what lets you fix a unit to the floor, chase a channel or install a shower tray without bursting a circuit. The same method serves the opposite problem, which is the more common one: a room that warms less than the others. The image shows straight away whether the circuit is not flowing, whether air is trapped in a run, or whether the manifold is poorly balanced between rooms. The inspection starts at the manifold, where we compare flow and return temperatures on each circuit, and continues across the floor, room by room, with the system running long enough to have stabilised. If a leak is suspected, we put the circuit under pressure and look for the anomalous warm patch that does not follow the run — heat spreading off the line of the coils is the typical sign. We record thermogram and photograph in the same framing and mark the points out on site, so that whoever carries out the work is working from information rather than memory. This work depends on conditions. Without the system on for some hours beforehand there is no contrast and the image is worth nothing, so we agree that preparation with you. Floors with thick rugs, heavy timber or fixed furniture hide the run in those areas, and we say which parts went unread rather than guessing at them. Nor does the camera see the pipe; it sees the effect of the pipe at the surface. When the reading is not conclusive, the honest decision is to open up at one point, not to guarantee a result the image does not support.

A thermographic inspection in Lumiar takes in:

• Screening rooms that warm less and circuits that are out of balance
• Checking flow and return temperatures at the manifold
• Looking for leaks in pipework buried in screed, circuit under pressure
• Marking out on site and a report with thermal images of the run
