Mobile Car Valeting in Cascais

A car in Cascais leads a hard life even when it barely moves. Sand arrives in it every time somebody comes back from Guincho or the Conceição, salt-laden air films the glass and the brightwork within days, and the boot has carried a wet wetsuit or a damp board more often than anyone wants to admit. Then there are the houses in Birre, Quinta da Marinha and Manique where the car belongs to an owner who is abroad for months and simply sits, gathering pine needles and pollen. We come to the property and clean the vehicle where it is kept, driveway or garage.

About our service in Cascais

Sand is the local problem and it is not one suction alone solves. Sand that has been walked into a mat is not sitting on top of it, it has worked down through the pile to the backing, and a vacuum will lift the loose top layer and leave the rest behind for the next person who gets in. Getting it out means extraction: the mats come out of the car, get agitated properly and are flushed and drawn through so the sand comes back up rather than down. The other place it hides is the seat rails, where it collects in the runners and grinds every time a seat is adjusted, and the boot lip, where it sits under the rubber seal. Those get done by hand. Salt is the exterior half. This close to the ocean a film builds on glass, on door handles, in the window rubbers and across every chrome or polished fitting, and it dulls a car far faster than ordinary city grime. A low-water wash lifts it well, but there is a limit to what dry methods can do, and we are honest about where it lies. A car caked in dried mud from a track, or carrying a genuine layer of coarse grit, cannot be dry-washed. Wiping abrasive particles across paint is how you put swirl marks into it. We assess the vehicle before we start and if it is not suitable we decline the exterior rather than damage it. For houses where the owner is away, a standing arrangement is usually the answer. A car left for weeks develops its own problems: a musty cabin, damp in the carpets from a boot that was shut on something wet, pollen and resin baked onto the paint. Regular visits keep all of that from becoming a restoration job, and we can report back with photographs to whoever is not in the country.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from car owners around Cascais:

Sand comes back every time I clean the car myself. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing, except relying on a vacuum. Sand settles through the pile to the mat backing, and suction only reaches what is near the surface, so the next journey works a fresh layer up again. The mats have to come out and be extracted, and the seat runners and boot lip cleaned by hand, before the car genuinely stops shedding sand.

The car has been on a track and is covered in dried mud. Can you still wash it?

Not with a dry method, and we will say so when we see it. Dragging cloths across caked mud and grit puts fine scratches into the lacquer, and no valet worth paying would do it. In that situation we would do the interior, which is unaffected, and look at the exterior once the heavy soiling has been rinsed off somewhere with proper water.

Our house here is empty most of the year. Can you look after the car while we are away?

Yes, and it is worth doing. A car standing for months in this climate picks up pollen, resin and salt on the outside and a musty smell inside, particularly if anything damp was shut in the boot. We can visit on a regular basis, leave the cabin aired and clean, and send photographs afterwards so you can see the condition from wherever you are. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, closed Sunday.
