Damp is the central fact of the work here. In stone and timber buildings, with high ceilings and old window frames, humid air makes dust cling to surfaces instead of lifting, and corners against external walls develop dark marks. Cleaning with plenty of water makes all of it worse. We work with a well-wrung cloth, a neutral product and immediate drying, airing the rooms as we go whenever the weather allows. When we find mould established on a wall, we say that this is a damp problem to be treated at source and not dirt, rather than scrubbing it and watching it return a fortnight later. The second trait of offices in Sintra is contact with visiting members of the public. Travel and activity agencies, tourism offices, estate agents and studios receive people who arrive off the street with wet shoes and dripping umbrellas. The entrance needs an absorbent mat and frequent vacuuming, and the floor by the door needs extra attention because it is slippery in the rain. We include that area on every visit and sign the floor whenever we wash it during opening hours. In the winter months this point alone often justifies one additional visit a week. Inside, the work is a matter of precision: timber boards and parquet with very little water, skirting and mouldings vacuumed, antique furniture with a compatible product, internal glazing and sills included in the routine because of condensation. In rooms with computers and printers we clean dry and keep the equipment away from any added moisture. Restrooms, kitchenette, restocking of consumables and waste separation complete the service. We also empty and wipe out dehumidifier tanks where the office uses them, because a full tank simply stops the machine working and the room goes damp again. We work Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 8pm, with visits agreed before you open to the public or after closing; we do not provide a night or Sunday service.
