About our service in Alvalade
Alvalade was laid out with space between its buildings, and it is that space which shapes the cleaning of the common parts. Almost every block on the Avenida da Igreja, in São João de Brito and across the Bairro de Alvalade has a yard or an inner courtyard with mature trees and planted beds. In autumn the leaves blow in through the service door and gather in the corners, the gutters and the surface gullies; in spring it is seeds and pollen sticking to the glass and the sills. We match the rhythm to that calendar: extra sweeping and collection in the weeks of leaf fall, and more frequent glass cleaning when pollen settles. Letting a courtyard gully block is the first step towards a flooded basement. Inside the building the work is regular and predictable. Stairs and landings in stone or tile, a metal handrail, flat doors, switches and bells, letterboxes, the entrance and the glass. We vacuum or sweep before washing, because running a mop over dry soil only makes mud in the joints. In buildings with a lift we clean the mirror, the buttons and the cabin floor, where everyone's hands and shoes concentrate. Where there is a service door and a secondary stair, it goes into the schedule too, if less often. The day and the time are fixed and announced on a notice in the lobby, we always sign the wet floor and leave one side of the flight free for anyone coming up. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm.
