Two kinds of condominium live side by side in Loures and they need different plans. There the effort concentrates on the entrance floor and the lift, with an extra pass, while the stairs on the upper floors keep the normal rhythm. In the buildings of Loures centre, Santo António dos Cavaleiros and the more open areas towards Bucelas and Fanhões, real soil comes in, carried from the lanes, the building sites and the neighbouring land, above all on windy days or after rain. Soil is not the same as dust, and it is treated the opposite way to what instinct suggests. Running a mop over dry soil makes mud, which dries in the joints and darkens the floor progressively until it looks like dirt that cannot be shifted. We always sweep or vacuum first, we work at the threshold and the barrier mat and, where a building is reached by an unmade lane, we suggest a longer mat at the door, which saves half the work that follows. We organise the buildings on a geographic round, with a fixed day for each, which lets us keep the same team at each condominium and arrive at the same time every week. We work Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm. We bring equipment and consumables, we wash and disinfect the bin areas on a set day, and we hand the manager a record of every visit, with anything needing a decision: a gate that will not close, a blown light in the garage, a broken drainage grate at the entrance.
