The reason a salt film is worth taking seriously is that it is sticky rather than loose. Dust blows off; salt does not. It stays, absorbs moisture from the night air, and glues down the sand and grit that arrive after it, until the module is carrying a bonded layer with a faint milky cast. What that does is straightforward to explain without inventing numbers: dirt shades the cells, and the panel can only work with the light that reaches it. A clean module simply operates in the conditions it was built for. If you want to see the change, the honest answer is to look at your own monitoring app before and after, in comparable weather, rather than take a figure from us. Removing it is a matter of water. Demineralised water, plenty of it, softening the film before a soft brush comes anywhere near, then a controlled-pressure rinse that leaves nothing behind to dry into spots. High pressure is never used on a panel: at close range it can push water past the frame seal towards the wiring behind the module. Abrasives are never used either, because the anti-reflective coating on the glass is thin and cannot be replaced once it is scratched or dulled, and neither are acidic or alkaline products. Cleaning a module the aggressive way is also a reliable way to have a warranty claim turned down later. We do not work on hot glass. Cold water on a module that has been in the sun since morning is a thermal shock with a real risk of micro-cracks, so appointments here go early in the day, late in the afternoon, or under cloud. Access is set up properly, with a ladder and harness on an anchor line, a platform where the roof needs one, or a pole from below where the rows are reachable. Nobody walks on the modules, and we will not cross old fibre-cement sheeting. We finish with the frames, the drainage and whatever has packed in under the rows, then a plain report on the condition of the glass and fixings.
